Orientation
Up one levelThis folder provides access to Community Health Assessment (CHA) orientation materials and is intended for local and state public health professionals working in CHA in Washington State. The orientation is a professional development tool designed for staff who are new to CHA and for existing CHA staff who want to build skills. Supervisors may find the orientation materials helpful in creating employee development plans. The orientation is designed to be self-paced. You do not have to go through it all at once, but can instead prioritize your learning through use of the self-assessment and through discussions with your supervisor. Additional guidance in using the orientation can be obtained from the Community Assessment Health Educator at Department of Health by calling (360) 236-4241.
- Community Health Assessment Competencies for Washington State Public Health Staff
- The competencies are statements about what staff working in CHA should be able to do. The competencies define a set of activities that are common to many CHA positions in local and state public health; however, not all competencies may be relevant for your particular position. Meet with your supervisor to review the competencies and identify the areas related to your specific job duties.
- Community Health Assessment Learning Objectives
- The learning objectives describe what you will gain by utilizing the learning activities and resources in the learning resource toolkit.
- Community Health Assessment Learning Resources Toolkit
- The learning resource toolkit is a compilation of web resources, training information, and learning activities, organized by competency. Once you have identified your learning needs through the self-assessment, you can use the learning toolkit to increase your proficiency level. Not all resources listed may be relevant; work with your supervisor to identify the activities that are most applicable and useful for you
- CHA Self-Assessment Tool
- The self-assessment allows you to self-rate your level of proficiency across each of the competency areas. It's not a test, but rather a tool to aid you in identifying the competency areas where more learning is needed. This allows you to focus your learning efforts. You may choose to only assess your proficiency level in the competency areas related to your specific job duties.
- CHA Self-Assessment Tool (Excel spreadsheet)
- This Excel version of the CHA self-assessment tool will calculate your score for each of the nine CHA competency areas and will assist you and your supervisor with prioritizing your learning areas.
- Orientation Plan Worksheet
- The worksheet will help you and your supervisor select and track completion of competency-specific learning resources. Description of the learning resources listed on the worksheet can be found in the CHA Learning Resource Toolkit. (see above)
- Community Health Assessment Orientation Manual
- The CHA Orientation Manual will help you as you work through the orientation materials available on this website.
